'The pen is mightier than the sword' goes an old proverb. It's been proved again and again again since the arrival of writing and development of media. Each one of them have developed as a robust medium in their own right.
They develop and become part of the society over time. Both convention and modernization make a contribution to the development of values. What was considered taboo twenty years back is a means of life today.
Thats how media has a tendency to develop the planet. Hollywood stars have mass fan following in states and places about which even the stars will not have heard about.
With the Net as goes the cliche- the world has changed into a smaller place. You can know anything about everything on the net, such is its power and reach. It reflects what folk truly are and what they actually think. The U. S. Has usually been a fore-runner, be it pictures, fashion or music. Jeans and fast-food, original products of the US are now as familiar to a Chinese as to an Indian. The just developing states adopted values and conventions made by the west. Television shows are now TV broadcast all over, thanks to satellites. So that the Yankee way of life is copied in Japan. To a level, yes but mostly the case is- the first values are kept while newer values and trends keep on reinforcing the culture.
So slowly a freshly discovered way of life develops- little wonder oldsters regularly say, 'this wasn't the case in our time'.
Books reflect the mind of an intellectual. They give a deep insight to the way an individual thinks. Books are really effective media to spread thoughts and values. Since a book is read, shared and saved over the years unlike a Television show. Thinking about TV shows, they have made new milestones. The show 'Who wants to be a millionaire' revived the age old human gluttony for wealth and recognition. Regardless of the folks pretend to be- their basic longings have and will stay the same. New values were not made, perhaps brought out of the closet again. But gluttony and lust shown in these shows reflect the common man on the streets. Music and Web are thought to be perfect media for spreading one's own ideology, values and so on. Wearing T-shirts worshipping devil is part of the rock culture. But plenty of these same folk do go to church on sundays. Chatting less about the web is better. So scandals are moneyspinners for them and not a challenge of morals and goodness for the society. It is bad when these media take a biased opinion about an argument and publicise the same. Its the commoners who take an inaccurate side due to inaccurate ethics. Something thats a technique of life for one man becomes a new price for another, thanks to media.
